After months of preparation the top 12 best behaved pupils from Waterloo Lodge School travelled to Torremolinos in Spain for five days. They were accompanied by four lucky staff members. The troop set of from Manchester Airport on Sunday 8th May with sun cream, sunglasses and some questionably “stylish” swim shorts!!
After a short flight we arrived at Malaga Airport, feeling a little tired from the traveling we checked into our rooms and got down for what was a much needed rest before taking on the beach and swimming pool the next day. Monday morning arrived but unfortunately we were not greeted by the famous “Costa Del Sol sunshine” but instead it seemed that we had brought the British weather with us. Undeterred and sticking with the theme of being British and abroad we were straight down stairs to tuck into a quick full English breakfast. We make the most of the swimming pool with a game of water volleyball in the rain as the rest of the passers-by looked on in disbelief wearing coats and scarfs and wielding umbrellas!!
After a day exploring and adjusting to the food which was on offer mainly cheesy chips) we awoke the next day to more rain. We refused to let it affect our trip and continued to spend the day around the pool and when the sun did came out we found ourselves down on the beach accompanied by some new friends that we had purchased; Fred and Flipper the giant inflatable crocodile and whale.
On the third day we had a trip to the Water Park. This was a great success and everyone had a fun day. Later that day we attempted to go fishing off the rocks, but we were stunned and stopped in our tracks as the local fishermen informed us to everyone’s amusement that “there were no fish in the sea”.
On the fourth day we planned to go dolphin watching but the we were unable to leave the harbour on boat because of the bad weather again. The weather thankfully changed and the sun finally came out so we made the most of every minute of it. On this day we did not move from the beach and everyone took part in football, Frisbee, and surfing as well as a lot of sun bathing and a lot of ice creams. We then finished the day off in Benalmadena Harbour with a meal and presentation for all the pupils who had took part and wholehearted enjoyed and made the most of everything that was on offer throughout the week. Awards included “Biggest Poser” and “Human Dustbin”
We ended the week with a stroll down the sea front and as a group which allowed us the time reflect on what had been an amazing experience.
Friday came around all too soon and as everybody did their best to catch the last minutes of sunshine, then time came to begin the journey home.
Over all everybody had a brilliant time and made some lasting memories that will be kept forever.
