On Thursday 17th October 2019 a group of year 10 and 11 pupils put on a fundraiser afternoon for Macmillan cancer research at Waterloo Lodge. The pupils also did this as part of their work towards the new Public Services course in the unity of “Being Organised” which helps them to prepare for life beyond high school. Miss. Radziminski challenged the pupils to organise the whole process themselves from advertising to cleaning up afterwards, the pupils decided that they would like to do a Macmillan coffee morning, a staff v kids football match and Brave The Shave/ Leg wax in order to raise money.
Two amazing students, Charlie and Kieran, Braved the Shave and the pupils even managed to convince Mr. Seeds, Mr. Fenton and Mr. McGoldrick to wax their legs! The staff v kids match was quite a nail biter with both teams pulling out all the moves to claim victory, however in the end staff just managed to clinch it. Finally there was a bake sale all produced by the pupils selling brownies, cupcakes, biscuits of all different flavours and decorated beautifully.
In total the students managed to raise £120 for Macmillan which provides vital care and support to cancer patients and funds lifesaving research in to different cancer treatments. Miss Radziminski said ‘As their teacher I am immensely proud of their efforts and the money they have raised for such a worthy cause’.
